When is Football Registration?

Registrations are held in late spring to early summer.  We do our best to accommodate late sign-ups, and a wait list will be available once registration is closed to fill any further spots available on teams. However, team placement is not guaranteed.  Team placement is only guaranteed by signing up within the registration open time frame.

When does the season start and end?

Practices officially begin in August with games beginning in September. The season will be done by MEA Weekend.

There are generally opportunities for teams to play an extended season past MEA going until the end of October, the decision of whether or not a Coon Rapids Team plays the extended season is solely up to the discretion of the coaching staff of that team and the Board of Directors.

When are the games?

Youth football games can be played any day of the week/weekends starting in September and ending by MEA weekend.  The league determine the exact times and days.  Coaches will post all games in the Sports Gravy App, as well on the Team Pages on the website, www.coonrapidsyouthfootball.com/teams.

Where are the games?

Game locations will vary per grade level. We will play some games in the Coon Rapids area as well as surrounding communities.

Where and when are the practices?

Practices will vary by team.  It will be up to the coach to determine the day and times of practice.  All practices are held at Sand Creek Park.  The first week of practice will be in August.

  • 2nd Grade* $125.00
  • 3rd and/or 4th Grade* $175.00
  • 5th and/or 6th Grade* $200.00
  • 7th and/or 8th Grade* $225.00

What equipment will my player need?

Coon Rapids Youth Football provides players with a Helmet, Shoulder Pads, Practice and Game pants, and Practice and Game Jersey.  Players need to provide their own mouth guard, protections and cleats. All equipment must be turned in at the end of the season.

    Can my daughter play football?

Yes.  Coon Rapids Youth Football is open to anyone who lives in Coon Rapids from 2nd to 8th grade.

Will my child get to play on the same team as his friends?

We may accommodate some request for playing with friends for 2nd grade.  The 3rd - 8th-grade teams will be organized by player draft to ensure equal teams are created (if the volumes support more than one team).

    Will there be tryouts?

No, most seasons each grade level has a single team and thus no tryouts are needed.  In the event that a grade level had enough players for multiple teams, a Combine would be done the first week of practice to evaluate players at that level and then a draft would be held by the coaches.

Are there weight restrictions for carrying the ball?

The leagues we play in have Ball Carrier weight limits as follows:

    • 2nd Grade - 85lbs (can carry the ball if 90lbs or less)
    • 3rd Grade - 95lbs (can carry the ball if 90lbs or less)
    • 4th Grade-105lbs (can carry the ball if 100lbs or less)
    • 5th Grade-125lbs (can carry the ball if 125 or less)
    • 6th Grade-135lbs (can carry the ball if 135 or less)

Players in excess of the weights will have a stripe of red tape affixed to their helmet from the front to the back and will not be allowed to carry the ball except in the case of a fumble recovery, interception or a kick that goes directly to the player (i.e., no lateral or hand-off allowed).

What League do we play in?

As of the 2025 Football Season Coon Rapids joined with 32 other communities to create the Gopher State Football League.  This move was done to create an opportunity for our players to be as competitive as possible, as well as having the opportunity to play different teams every year.  You can find a link to their page in the Information drop down at the top of the page.

      How can parents help?

We post a Coaches Application in July each year.  We are always looking for volunteers to help out in other areas as well, from helping to set up the fields, coordinating kids during evaluations or just helping police the sidelines.  Please contact Brent Le Claire and let us know what you are interested in doing or how you can help.
